Tween Minds: Abducted

So Taylor Lautner has a new movie. I know, I didn't foresee a stellar follow-up career for that one, either, so it's no surprise that it's a PG-13, bubble-gum teen thriller with chase scenes, poorly-held firearms, and plenty of time to make out while your quarry chases you.

The plot line of the movie is....totally irrelevant. But not only to us. It's also irrelevant to the millions and millions of pre-teen girls who will line up to see the movie on opening day. It could be a three-and-a-half hour documentary on the half-life of radioactive fungus and hoards of girls would shell out $12.50 of their babysitting money to sit through the entire thing.

The truth, the actors and actresses of the Twilight saga, while never required to be good at acting in the first place, now don't even have to land significant roles to make money. By simply signing a contract to star in four--oh God, I mean five--movies, they have a ready-made audience that will follow them to the ends of the earth....or at least to the movie theater.

Bottom line: Those who invest in a large, prepackaged audience (i.e. teenage girls...rednecks...Christians...) don't have to be good at what they do. They make millions of dollars regardless.
